Google DeepMind is a London-based AI research organisation within Google whose Gemini Robotics programme develops models for robot action and embodied reasoning.
Why Google DeepMind matters to robotics
Gemini Robotics separates two jobs that are often blurred together. Its vision-language-action models translate perception and instructions into robot actions, while its embodied-reasoning models act as a higher-level brain for understanding physical spaces, planning and checking whether a task has succeeded.
The current 2-series pages show that split clearly. Gemini Robotics 2 is a private-preview VLA for robots ranging from tabletop systems to full humanoids. Gemini Robotics ER 2 is a public-preview reasoning model available through Google AI Studio and the Gemini API. Robot Harbour first verified the live 2-series pages on 6 August 2026; Google DeepMind had not published a release date on those product pages, so none is inferred here.
UK and European relevance
Google DeepMind’s London base makes it a particularly important company for Robot Harbour’s UK perspective. Access still varies by model: an API-accessible reasoning model is not the same proposition as a VLA supplied to selected robot partners.
