Spot is Boston Dynamics’ commercially available quadruped robot for remote inspection, sensing, data capture and work in environments that are difficult or hazardous for people.
Status and capability
Commercial sales opened in June 2020. The current platform weighs 33.8 kilograms, carries up to 14 kilograms of payload and runs for around 90 minutes per charge. Boston Dynamics lists a default walking height of 610 millimetres, extendable to 700 millimetres, a top speed of 1.6 metres per second and IP54 protection.
Commercial use
Spot can be operated remotely or assigned repeatable autonomous inspection routes, with payloads for thermal imaging, acoustic sensing, laser scanning and manipulation. Boston Dynamics says more than 1,500 Spot robots are in customers’ hands and that its robots operate in more than 35 countries.
UK and European availability
Spot is commercially available in the United Kingdom and European Union and is CE marked. European use cases include transport, construction, energy and industrial inspection. Pricing is not published; buyers are directed to Boston Dynamics’ sales team.
